Name: Homura Akemi
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Race: Human Magical Girl
Anime: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Canon?: Yes
Appearance:
Weapons: Hourglass shield - A small, buckler-sized shield with internal clockwork gears and an hourglass. It has no direct battle capabilities aside from enabling Homura to use her time-stopping powers and serving as a near-limitless container for her other weapons.
Veritable Armory - Homura has taken to stopping time to raid military facilities, due to her own lack of offensive powers as a Magical Girl. She's acquired a large amount of guns, ammo, and even explosive devices to use, though they are all of normal military design.
History: Homura started out as a frail, sickly girl. She had a medical condition that required constant hospital trips and visits, and was often the target of bullying due to her lack of any real capability in every field. She lacked anything resembling self-esteem or confidence, and didn't really have any friends. This changed when a Witch targeted her, feeding off her negative feelings and leading her towards suicide. Homura was saved from this fate by a Magical Girl named Madoka Kaname. Madoka and Homura became friends, though the relationship developed into something deeper than that in Homura's mind.
And then came Walpurgis Night. Madoka died protecting Homura from it, which prompted the frail girl to contract with Kyubey so that she could get a chance to meet with Madoka again, and become strong enough to protect her instead of having to be protected by her. Kyubey granted her wish, and Homura gained her time-manipulation powers, using them to reset the timeline. Since that first reset, Homura has tried 100 times to defend her friend, at first simply trying to prevent her death at the hands of Walpurgis Night, and then from Madoka from contracting with Kyubey in the first place after discovering that Magical Girls become witches upon death. Her abilities as a magical girl have disposed of her illness, and the constant string of failures has only served to focus her even more upon her goal. This time, she will succeed, no matter what it takes.
Personality: There was a time where Homura was a kind individual,if extremely shy and lacking in self-confidence. 100 repeats of the same month and watching most of her friends die in horrible ways multiple times has made her much more hard-hearted. She appears ruthless, emotionless, and coldly calculating to most other people. However, this has mostly developed as a necessity from watching so many people she cares about die so many times, and her discoveries about the nature of Witches. If she despairs over the deaths of her friends that she couldn't stop, if she loses hope in her quest to save Madoka, then she will become a Witch near instantly. Combined with her determination to accomplish her goal, it's no surprise that she's turned out the way she has. Still, the occasional glimpse of the immense strain put on her by her path creeps through, even if it is quickly suppressed.
Attacks: Time Stop - Homura's main ability as a Magical Girl, and what enables her to be one of the most powerful Magical Girls in the world. By manipulating the hourglass within her shield, Homura can stop the flow of sand within it, stopping time for as long as she stops the flow. Only she and objects/individuals she touches can move while she has time stopped in this way, meaning that she can inflict grievous injuries upon those she fights before they even realize what's going on. However, there are a few catches. The longer she keeps time stopped, the more magical energy it takes to keep it up, meaning that she usually keeps herself limited to short bursts of stopped time. In addition, beings with a great deal of magical energy who know of her powers can move in her time-stop if they focus upon doing so at the moment she stops time. Lastly, this is her sole ability as a Magical Girl, and one she tends to keep on reserve, as to not reveal her hand to Kyubey in the timeline.
Friends/Family: Madoka Kaname - Madoka is still a normal girl upon this reset, though Kyubey is still grasping for any reason to contract with her, and she doesn't really know who Homura is, though she is slightly afraid of her. But regardless of how Madoka feels, Homura is going to save her, no matter what she has to do.
Sayaka Miki (will be known as Oktavia von Seckendorff upon becoming a witch) - In the current iteration of the timeline, as with all the others before it, Sayaka is Madoka's best friend. She's a nice girl, even if she doesn't really like Homura that much, and a good friend to Madoka. However, Homura knows from all the other times that she's interfered in the timeline that she can't grow too close to Sayaka. The reason is simple: In every timeline, without fail or exception, Sayaka contracts with Kyubey. She makes the same wish every time, so that a boy she has a crush on can play the violin again. And each time, she has her heart broken by him. Her wish and his actions have always lead to Sayaka becoming a Witch, and nothing Homura did in all her tries ever changed that. So now, she simply ignores her as a lost cause, and tries not to become too attached in preparation for the inevitable need to put her down.
Mami Tomoe - The most senior magical girl Homura knows of, and the individual that is currently aiding Kyubey in his attempts to convince Madoka to become a Magical girl. However, she doesn't know the reasons behind Kyubey's contracts, and simply wants Madoka to contract with him simply so she doesn't have to be alone in her fights anymore. However, in the original timeline, Mami was one of Homura's close friends, and helped her develop as a magical girl. So, in order to avoid the pain of coming into conflict with her and having to possibly fight, or even kill her, Homura simply avoids her when she can, and keeps their interactions to a minimum when she can't.
Kyubey - Not exactly a friend, unless you're the type to consider an emotionless alien who actively harvests the hopelessness and despair of teenage girls by tricking them into contracts a friend. Kyubey is responsible for giving Homura her powers, and is currently the biggest threat to Madoka's safety and future. Entirely unkillable, as he simply has bodies in reserve to replace the one he's currently using should it become too damaged. He's known for granting the wishes of teenage girls in exchange for them becoming Magical Girls, though the wishes he grants have a tendency of backfiring horribly in some way, always leading to either the death of these girls as they fight Witches, or the eventual despair and hopelessness turning them into a Witch themselves.
RP Sample: Homura calmly walked forward within the Labyrinth of Walpurgis Night, not even sparing a glance to the gaudy parade of circus elephants as imagined by an acid trip that was the Witch's familiars. They had been frightening the first few times she had seen them, but by now, they had lost their appeal. Besides, none of the creatures would attack her anyways. No, Walpurgis knew that she could defeat any sole Magical Girl, even one as powerful as Homura. So her familiars simply ignored her, simply continuing upon the aimless path of announcement that their master preferred to have them follow.
She looked up towards the sky, seeing the familiar movie-reel countdown filling the sky as Walpurgis prepared to reveal herself. Homura moved a hand to her shield, her face blank. She had been through this battle dozens of times before, and had lost each time only because of a mistake on her part. This time, though, would be different. She would fight Walpurgis Night, the strongest witch in existence, and kill her. Even if she had to die in the process, she would do it. She would show this monster just how much of a mistake it was to threaten Madoka, to try and condemn her to the tortures of becoming a Magical Girl. As the final number flashed across the sky, Homura would speak only one word. "Showtime."
